LearnEnglish Kids is the British Council's website for
young learners of English. The latest topic on
LearnEnglish Kids is the time. You can find all the
activities on this page:
http://www.britishcouncil.org/kids-topics-time.htm

Learners can:
- Practise telling the time with online games and
activities (and practise listening too)
- Practise the months of the year with a song
- Learn about time zones around the world with a story
(as well as talking about routines!)
- Listen to a traditional children's song - Hickory
Dickory Dock

There are also flashcards for practising the time:
http://www.britishcouncil.org/kids-flashcards.htm

Parents will find notes for using the activities on
the new LearnEnglish Parents site. They will also find
instructions for making a clock, and cards to download
and print to play time bingo:
http://www.britishcouncil.org/parents-tips-time.htm

LearnEnglish Parents is a new site for parents of
young learners of English.

Avalaible Scholarship

scritto da AngelesBerman il Monday, 14 January 2008,22:06
I received this and share :-)

Joint Aston/Allan and Nesta Ferguson International
Friendship Scholarships for Masters students from
South America.

For the second year running Aston University, in
Birmingham, England, has 6 Master's scholarships to
support students from any South American or African
country who want to study for any of the Master's
degrees offered by the School of Languages and Social
Sciences. Currently there are one-year Masters degrees
in Applied Linguistics(with specialisations in Corpus,
Forensic, Literary and Socio Linguistics); in TESOL;
in Translation Studies; and in TESOL and Translation
Studies. The scholarship covers all but £1,000 of the
normal £8,400 course fee. Sadly there is no money
available for living expenses.

For 2007-8, we recruited excellent students from
Argentina and Brazil; it would be good to have
students from more countries in 2008-9.
Scholarships are awarded on merit alone. If you know
of anyone who might be interested in applying, they
can find more details on webpage

http://www.aston.ac.uk/lss/pgadmissions/lssmascholarship.jsp

With all best wishes

the love of a good book is timeless

Children are not the people of tomorrow, but are people of today. They have a right to be taken seriously, and to be treated with tenderness and respect. They should be allowed to grow into whoever they were meant to be. ' The unknown person' inside each of them is our hope for the future.

ABOUT LIFE

scritto da AngelesBerman il Saturday, 04 August 2007,15:15
LIFE

On the first day, God created the dog and said: "Sit all day by the door of your house and bark at anyone who comes in or walks past. For this, I will give you a life span of twenty years." The dog said: "That's a long time to be barking. How about only ten years and I'll give you back the other ten?"

So God agreed.

On the second day, God created the monkey and said: "Entertain people, do tricks, and make them laugh. For this, I'll give you a twenty-year life span." The monkey said: "Monkey tricks for twenty years? That's a pretty long time to perform. How about I give you back ten like the Dog did?"

And God agreed.

On the third day, God created the cow and said: "You must go into the field with the farmer all day long and suffer under the sun, have calves and give milk to support the farmer's family. For this, I will give you a life span of sixty years." The cow said: "That's kind of a tough life you want me to live for sixty years. How about twenty and I'll give back the other forty?"

And God agreed again.

On the fourth day, God created man and said: "Eat, sleep, play, marry and enjoy your life. For this, I'll give you twenty years." But man said: "Only twenty years? Could you possibly give me my twenty, the forty the cow gave back, the ten the monkey gave back, and the ten the dog gave back; that makes eighty, okay ?"

"Okay," said God, "You asked for it."

So that is why the first twenty years we eat, sleep, play and enjoy ourselves. For the next forty years we slave in the sun to support our family. For the next ten years we do monkey tricks to entertain the grandchildren. And for the last ten years we sit on the front porch and bark at everyone.

Life has now been explained to you.

Mean Moms

scritto da AngelesBerman il Monday, 07 May 2007,22:39

Someday when my children are old enough to understand the logic that motivates a parent, I will tell them, as my Mean Mom told me:

I loved you enough . . . to ask where you were going, with whom, and what time you would be home.

I loved you enough to be silent and let you discover that your new best friend was a creep.

I loved you enough to make you go pay for the bubble gum you had taken and tell the clerk, "I stole this yesterday and want to pay for it."

I loved you enough to stand over you for two hours while you cleaned your room, a job that should have taken 15 minutes.

I loved you enough to let you see anger, disappointment, and tears in my eyes. Children must learn that their parents aren't perfect.

I loved you enough to let you assume the responsibility for your actions even when the penalties were so harsh they almost broke my heart.

But most of all, I loved you enough . . to say NO when I knew you would hate me for it.

Those were the most difficult battles of all. I'm glad I won them, because in the end you won, too.

And someday when your children are old enough to understand the logic that motivates parents, you will tell them.

Was your Mom mean? I know mine was. We had the meanest mother in the whole world! While other kids ate candy for breakfast, we had to have cereal, eggs, and toast. When others had a Pepsi and a Twinkie for lunch, we had to eat sandwiches. And you can guess our mother fixed us a dinner that was different from what other kids had, too.

Mother insisted on knowing where we were at all times. You'd think we were convicts in a prison.

She had to know who our friends were, and what we were doing with them. She insisted that if we said we would be gone for an hour, we would be gone for an hour or less.

By the time we were teenagers, she could read our minds and had eyes in the back of her head. Then, life was really tough!

Mother wouldn't let our friends just honk the horn when they drove up. They had to come up to the door so she could meet them. While everyone else could date when they were 12 or 13, we had to wait until we were 16.

Because of our mother we missed out on lots of things other kids experienced. None of us have ever been caught shoplifting, vandalizing other's property or ever arrested for any crime. It was all her fault.

Now that we have left home, we are all educated, honest adults. We are doing our best to be mean parents just like Mom was.

I received these beautiful thoughts, I think they could be useful for someone

I OWE MY MOTHER!!

1. My mother taught me TO APPRECIATE A JOB WELL DONE.
"If you're going to kill each other, do it outside. I just finished cleaning."

2. My mother taught me RELIGION.
"You better pray that will come out of the carpet."

3. My mother taught me about TIME TRAVEL.
"If you don't straighten up, I'm going to knock you into the middle of next week!"

4. My mother taught me LOGIC.
"Because I said so, that's why."

5. My mother taught me MORE LOGIC.
"If you fall out of that swing and break your neck, you're not going to the store with me."

6. My mother taught me FORESIGHT.
"Make sure you wear clean underwear, in case you're in an accident."

7. My mother taught me IRONY.
"Keep crying, and I'll give you something to cry about."

8. My mother taught me about the science of OSMOSIS.
"Shut your mouth and eat your supper."

9. My mother taught me about CONTORTIONISM.
"Will you look at that dirt on the back of your neck!"

10. My mother taught me about STAMINA.
"You'll sit there until all that spinach is gone."

11. My mother taught me about WEATHER.
"This room of yours looks as if a tornado went through it."

12. My mother taught me about HYPOCRISY.
"If I've told you once, I've told you a million times. Don't exaggerate!"

13. My mother taught me the CIRCLE OF LIFE.
"I brought you into this world, and I can take you out."

14. My mother taught me about BEHAVIOR MODIFICATION.
"Stop acting like your father!"

Teachers are always trying to make materials for students. I found a site where you can make crosswords and puzzles and a lot of printables.

In this site, you can now record the words that you add or edit in your account - and your students will hear your voice while learning

You can enter there for free but if you want to add your school logo to the material you have to pay.It seems to be quite interesting, so I'll give it a try :-)
